Foxtail Management in Smooth Brome Hay Meadows

نویسندگان

چکیده

Three different herbicides were applied at early bromegrass greenup and post hay harvest to assess their effectiveness in controlling foxtail two producer meadow sites Pottawatomie (PT) Dickinson (DK) counties. Pendimethalin resulted the greatest control, but control did not extend through season reduce late-summer infestations. Metsulfuron approximately 30% visible brome injury. The injury was associated with 77 48% losses when compared untreated check, PT DK sites, respectively. Injury from spring treatments exacerbated by six freeze events cool, dry conditions for three weeks following application. pendimethalin post-harvest also injury, matter yields measured. This study will be continued 2021 without metsulfuron treatments, addition of sequential treatments.

Using Herbicide and No-Till Planting to Establish Garrison Creeping Foxtail in Wet Meadows

Garrison creeping foxtail can increase the forage yield of wet meadows. However, tillage can be problematic on heavy-textured soils and thick sod mats often associated with wet meadows. This study examined the potential of establishing Garrison with the use of herbicides and no-till planting. Garrison was no-till drilled into a wet meadow using herbicide control of existing vegetation in the en...

Impact of regional species pool on grasshopper restoration in hay meadows

Agri-environment schemes are the most widely adopted political measure to maintain and restore farmland biodiversity in Europe. However, abiotic and biotic factors often limit the success of ecological restoration. Among the biotic factors, the size of the local and regional species pool is a major constraint. This is only well documented for plants. We therefore wanted to know if a small regio...

Comparison of hay and haylage from permanent Alpine meadows in winter dairy cow diets.

In an Alpine environment, diets based on local forage resources are needed to maintain the link with the territory and confer special characteristics to typical cheeses. Harvesting at a late stage of maturity, high mechanical losses, and frequent rainfall often make the hay that is harvested of a poor quality. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of 2 different conservation methods...

Escape protein supplementation of yearling steers grazing smooth brome pastures.

Two grazing trials utilizing individually supplemented yearling steers were conducted to study the effect of supplemental escape protein on steer performance during the active growth periods, spring and fall, of smooth brome (Bromus inermis). Graded levels (0, .11, .23 and .34 kg.head-1.d-1) of an equal-protein-basis mixture of bloodmeal and corn gluten meal were offered daily, replacing corn s...
